OLS1

The OLS 1 Series of optical LED sources are inexpensive, practical instruments designed for performing optical loss measurements on fiber optic networks when used with an optical power meter. The OLS 1 is easy to operate with only a power switch and a wavelength select slide switch. The power switch will illuminate when on and flashes to indicate a low battery condition.

The LED outputs are stabilized to ensure accurate test results. Weighing only 4.5 ounces, the OLS 1 is compact and convenient for field use. The OLS 1 operates over 80 hours from a typical 9V alkaline battery. An AC adapter is optional for extended use.ST™ connector style is standard with SMA optionally available.

The OLS 1 Series Optical Light Sources provide a stable known level of light to accurately perform loss tests with an optical power meter.

Operating at 850nm, the OLS 1-1 can be used for testing LAN, Ethernet, Token Ring and other multimode systems. The OLS 1-1B operates at 660 and 850nm, adding the ability to test 1000µ fiber and trace fibers with the 660nm output.

The OLS 1-2 operates at 850 and 1300nm for use on LAN, Ethernet, Token Ring, and FDDI. The 1300nm output can be used to test short distance (up to 10km) singlemode fiber links.

The OLS 1 Series is designed to work in conjunction with optical power meters from Noyes Fiber Systems and can be purchased together as a kit.

OLS2

The OLS 2 laser source series offers excellent stability and portability for accurate fiber optic testing. Four versions of the OLS 2 are offered for measurements at 1310 nm, 1550 nm, 1625 nm, and dual wavelength (1310/1550 nm). These compact units operate in either continuous wave (CW) mode or 2 kHz modulated mode.

With an output power of -10 dBm, the OLS 2 will provide in excess of 50 dB range when used with Noyes Fiber Systems optical power meters.

The OLS 2 operates on disposable batteries or AC adapter. A Low battery indication warns the user that battery replacement is necessary. The optical output is via a top panel FC, SC, or ST connector. The output may be equipped with other style connectors upon request.

When used with an optical power meter, the OLS 2 laser source provides an inexpensive alternative to higher priced loss test sets. The OLS 2 may be substituted for terminal equipment in the central office or head-end to provide a stable output for loss measurements.

For singlemode applications, such as Telecom or CATV, the OLS 2 may be coupled with an optical power meter as a test kit to perform optical loss tests at 1310 or 1550nm.

In the modulation mode, the OLS 2 applies a 2 kHz tone into the fiber. This signal is detected by the OFI-200B, optical fiber identifier, to isolate specific fibers in a bundle prior to splicing or rerouting.
